I have many years experience of working with young people and adults whom have been affected by trauma and past life experiences. My clients may come to me suffering with anxiety disorders, depression, low self-esteem and psychological distress. However, clients are often unable to pinpoint why they feel the way they do and may feel lost or lonely as a consequence.
My aim is to improve a client’s well being and mental health and to help change negative thought processes, beliefs, compulsions or emotions.
APPROACH
My approach is person-centred, meaning the client is the focus of my work and involves helping to understand any feelings that arise and why they are being felt. Depending on my clients’ individual needs, I may adapt my techniques in a more integrative way by using a more directive approach which may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, coping strategies or grounding techniques.
I offer a friendly, non-judgemental approach to counselling with total honesty and openness. I am a naturally strong and resilient individual who is not easily shocked; my aim is to provide a space which allows my clients feel safe and accepted, allowing them to open up, maybe for the first time, about distressing issues which may feel embarrassing or shameful. I feel it is often easier to talk to someone impartial and in confidence.
I work with a wide range of clients from 14 years old and from any background or sexuality. My particular interest is helping those who have experienced sexual, physical, emotional, psychological or cultural abuse at the hands of another, and suffer from PTSD or dissociative disorders as a result. I have experience of working with survivors and families affected by historic sexual abuse along with teenagers in both educational and residential settings, with many different mental health difficulties.

EXPERIENCE
I previously worked at the charity Mosaic II in Bradford with survivors and families effected by childhood sexual abuse. Here I worked as a counsellor with men, women and young people, many of whom were extremely traumatised and vulnerable. The clients at Mosaic II present with various issues including depression, anxiety, addiction, self harm, PTSD, suicidal ideation and eating disorders.
For many years I have worked with teenagers in both educational and residential settings who were experiencing many mental health problems such as phobias, disorders and other difficulties.
Regardless of what brings you to seek a counsellor, if you are reading this then you are probably reaching out for support and understanding. If you feel that I might be someone you could talk to, then please do not hesitate to contact me and we can discuss your individual needs and expectations. I look forward to hearing from you.
