Sara Hogg counsellor Saltaire

My name is Sara; I am a fully qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work with adults 18+.

I work in line with the BACP’s code of ethics helping clients hoping to heal crucial relationships, fix problematic behaviours, alleviate emotional pain and improve their overall life satisfaction.

I understand how daunting it may feel to reach out for support, therefore I will do my upmost to make sure you feel comfortable, heard, and valued from the start of our therapy sessions together.

My way of working

My approach to therapy is individualised as I use an integrative approach which incorporates different evidence based modalities to meet the needs of the client. This form of therapy can be effective when looking at issues and events that may have happened in the past, and is also beneficial when exploring what is currently having an impact on their everyday lives.

I am also fully trained to incorporate CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) tools for the client to use within and out of sessions; this form of therapy can assist in alleviating symptoms associated with anxiety and depression.  CBT tools are also helpful in identifying unhelpful behaviour’s such as avoidance, negative thought patterns and triggers that lead to unhealthy coping strategies.

Areas I work with

I have worked with clients experiencing an extensive range of mental and behavioural issues. This is not an exhaustive list:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma – for those who are learning to cope and heal after having witnessed or experienced frightening events including childhood trauma.
  • Physical, emotional and sexual abuse
  • Work-related stress and work relationships
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Challenging adjustments and life transitions
  • Self-esteem
  • Relationship problems such as domestic violence, gas-lighting and coercive control
  • Family struggles and protecting children
  • Divorce
  • Stress
  • Unhealthy coping strategies and addiction including online porn

My experience

Prior to training to become a counsellor, I spent 19 years working in the corporate sector; this background means that I understand the demands of work, the dynamics of working relationships and the related stresses that can arise.

Following training to become a counsellor, I spent a few years working for a charity in conjunction with HMP service. Here I counselled adult relatives of men serving a custodial sentence and worked with clients from a broad range of backgrounds experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges, including, current relationship problems, intimidation, domestic violence, financial worries, shame, managing family life as well as more historic issues.
