What I can help with

I provide counselling to survivors of unhealthy or abusive relationships. I have been trained to offer specialised therapy to people who encountered child sexual exploitation, empowering them to work with the impact of trauma on their lives.

I listen to people whose well-being is affected by their faith or religious community. Faith can be a help in life, but can also bring its own stresses; faith can sometimes make it hard to talk about your emotions. Simply being heard in a confidential setting could be the safe haven you need.

I am also a clinical supervisor to other therapists, both students and qualified. Supervision is an unsung but crucial element of counselling: an oasis where therapists can be when they feel tired or inspired, and where they can nurture the flame of therapy.

My approach

I offer a person-centred approach, so that you can feel believed and heard, and get to know your thoughts and gut feelings – helping them work together, so you can attend to life’s tricky stuff.

I’m a bit like a mountain guide. You’re the expedition leader – you decide which way to go and what to explore; I’m the one who keeps you safe, who knows and tends the terrain, who accompanies you on your voyage towards hope and meaning.

My experience

I have worked as a counsellor in a wide variety of settings, including a college for neurodiverse young adults, several schools, a faith organisation, a community centre and a domestic abuse agency – where I also supervised a team of student counsellors. For ten years, I was a family outreach worker, listening to parents and children and learning from them.

My qualifications

  • Counselling Level 5 Diploma
  • BACP Counselling Accreditation
  • Counselling Children Level 4 Certificate
  • Diploma in Clinical Supervision
  • I undertake regular training every year in other vital aspects of mental health, particularly in matters relating to loss, abuse and trauma.

RATES

Sessions are charged at £60 each, and are 50 minutes long and usually weekly. I offer in-person therapy and have availability in daytimes and evenings.

The first session is free, and can last between 20 and 40 minutes – this session gives you a chance to work out if this feels alright, and to bring any questions you may have.
