EXPERIENCE
I have experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist in voluntary sector and private settings, mostly providing counselling and therapy for trauma and sexual abuse.
In my private practice, I work extensively with neurodiversity, particularly autism/Asperger’s, ADHD and adults with dyslexia returning to education. I offer a neurodiversity positive and strengths-based approach to support you to develop your own ideas about what a meaningful neurodivergent life is, as well as a safe space to explore and address difficulties and barriers. As a neurodivergent therapist, I can offer a unique insight and understanding of the experience of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world.
Traumatic experiences, particularly those experienced in early life, can cause both acute and long term difficulties. These may include intrusive thoughts or memories, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, difficulties sleeping/concentrating/focusing, emotional overwhelm, substance dependency, difficulties forming and sustaining relationships, and a sense of guilt or shame. I aim to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment for all and for you to be able to explore your life experiences in an accepting, warm and secure therapeutic relationship. This provides a strong foundation for growth and development to take place within the therapy.
I also integrate other trauma-informed approaches that I have been trained in, such as Janina Fisher’s Trauma Informed Stabilisation and parts work/Internal Family Systems (IFS), trauma-focused CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and the Rewind technique. We work together to decide on the best approach for you.
