I’m Erin, a Registered Art Psychotherapist who uses art making and creativity to support the therapeutic process. I have extensive experience working across NHS in-patient and community mental health services (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Adult Eating Disorders services) and charitable mental health organisations. I can absolutely see the power Creative Therapies hold in helping vulnerable individuals better understand themselves and move on from a commonly felt feeling of ‘stuckness.’ Art Therapy can help reduce anxiety and change your relationship with control, self- acceptance, and resilience. My practice is a non-intrusive, non-judgemental approach to explore difficult emotions, if you are struggling to make sense of these. I provide exemplary therapeutic support and care for individuals from initial assessment stages through to supporting progress and growth with ongoing therapeutic reviews.

My practice stretches across West Yorkshire, where I work with and support individuals aged 14+.

My specialisms and areas of research / continued professional development include:

  • Autism
  • Anxiety (General, Social)
  • Body image difficulties
  • Communication difficulties
  • Depression / Low mood
  • Eating disorders / Disordered eating behaviours
  • Emotional dysfunction
  • Social difficulties
  • Unhealthy coping strategies

Art Therapy is a non-intrusive approach to address painful feelings or experiences. This approach to therapy can be valuable for anyone – children, young people, adults and the elderly. It can be helpful for anyone who is finding it difficult to put thoughts and feelings into words, struggling to communicate things verbally. Through utilising the creative process, you can explore yourself in a safe, contained space with a highly trained professional.

You do not need to be naturally creative. Art therapy is not a recreational activity or art lesson. It is not a distractive tool, but a way to support the therapeutic process through using gentle techniques (these may be directive or non-directive) alongside verbal therapy approaches.

I use evidence-based therapeutic techniques and modalities for individuals presenting with a range of difficulties. Alongside a creative therapy approach, I adopt psychoanalytical, cognitive-interpersonal, mindfulness and meditative approaches. I work therapeutically with familial relations – parents, carers and partners, to help you strengthen your support networks.

I am a practising MANTRA (Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa) therapist, which is an NHS (NICE approved) cognitive-interpersonal therapy that considers the biology and psychology of difficulties and how these factors interact to keep a disorder going.
