My practice is non-intrusive, non-judgemental, and non-conventional approach to explore difficult emotions and topics. I provide exemplary therapeutic support and care from initial assessment stages through to supporting progress and growth with ongoing therapeutic checkpoints.

I have extensive and existing experience working for NHS in-patient and community mental health services (both CAMHS and Adult). As such, my therapeutic offerings include evidence- based, NHS approved approaches.

As an Art Therapist and practicing independent artist, I absolutely see the power in using creativity, expression and art to support the therapeutic process. I have seen the power of the arts to encourage vulnerable individuals to better understand themselves and move on from a commonly cited feeling of ‘stuckness.’ Art Therapy can help reduce anxiety and change your relationship with control, self-acceptance, and resilience.

My specialisms and areas of research / continued professional development include:

  • Autism
  • Anxiety (General, Social)
  • Body image difficulties
  • Communication difficulties
  • Depression / Low mood
  • Eating disorders / Disordered eating behaviours
  • Emotional dysfunction
  • Social difficulties
  • Unhealthy coping strategies

Each individual’s inner world and language is absolutely unique and as such, the therapeutic intervention I offer to support each individual’s journey will be unique and tailored specifically for that individual. Alongside a creative therapy approach, I ongoingly assess where psychoanalytical, cognitive-interpersonal (an approach that considers the biology and psychology of difficulties and how these interact to keep a disorder or unhealthy coping strategy alive), mindfulness and meditative approaches may be beneficial for each individual.

My approach will incorporate both verbal and non-verbal techniques which I will adapt with the direction of each individual’s journey. Where there is a need, I may suggest and offer to support therapeutic work with familial relations – parents, carers and partners, which can help an individual to maximise their progress.

Art therapy at the Victoria Therapy Centre, Saltaire

Art Therapy is a non-intrusive approach to address painful feelings or experiences. This approach to therapy can be valuable for anyone – children, young people, adults and the elderly. It can be helpful for anyone who is finding it difficult to put thoughts and feelings into words, struggling to communicate things verbally. Through utilising the creative process, you can explore yourself in a safe, contained space with a highly trained professional.

You do not need to be naturally creative. Art therapy is not a recreational activity or art lesson. It is not a distractive tool, but a way to support the therapeutic process through using gentle techniques (these may be directive or non-directive) alongside verbal therapy approaches.
