Hi I’m Brian. I offer something a little bit different to most counsellors; firstly I’m male, so if your preference is for a male counsellor I’d be happy to have a chat to see if I can help you. Secondly, I mainly work with children, teenagers and young people, so whether you are a looking for support for yourself or a young family member, I may be able to help.

I am mainly a person-centred counsellor, that means the way I work is to help you to find the sources and solutions to your issues. I work in a non-judgemental way, at your pace and with any problem you wish to bring up. I also bring in other styles of counselling into the sessions where I feel they will be beneficial; that may be in the form of a type of creative counselling such as Art Therapy, Play Therapy, story work or Sand Tray Therapy. I also have 15 years experience as a football coach giving me a strong focus and experience in instilling confidence and motivating people; I have coached boys’ and girls’ grassroots football, adult men’s academy football and women’s football.

I have worked with children, teenagers and young people in both primary and secondary schools for 20 years, including four years as the mental health lead and designated teacher for children in the care system in a large local secondary school. I have supported children and teenagers through a large variety of issues including self-harm, suicidal ideology, depression, anxiety, bereavement, early life trauma and abuse.

I have worked in local counselling agencies, both face-to-face and online, counselling adults with a range of difficulties from work stress, family and relationship difficulties, illness, bereavement, childhood trauma, confidence and self-esteem.
